Teahouses

Geisha quarters, or ochaya (teahouses), along the street Shinbashi dori, part of the pleausre quarter in Gion.

The teahouses are mostly wooden, 2-story buildings with lattices (bengara goshi) on the ground floor and reed screens (sudare) on the second floors to ensure the privacy of guests.
